Science
The Science Department at Western School of Technology and Environmental Science has the goal of instilling an enthusiasm for science in every student. The department provides instruction in a variety of scientific areas in order to prepare students for college or a career directly out of high school. All students should have a good understanding of science concepts in order to make appropriate decisions in life. To achieve this, all students at Western are required to take at least four sciences. The core sciences offered are Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Science. These are taught at the levels of Standard, Honors, and Gifted and Talented. Our environmental science magnet students take additional science courses each year on top of the core courses. During their senior year, students have a variety to choose from. Aquatics, Projects, Microbiology, Anatomy and Physiology, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, and AP Physics are on the menu for all students. The Science Department is committed to teaching using engaging techniques such as hands on laboratory investigations, the use of computer technology, and explorations outside utilizing our wooded property and student created wetlands. Students can also put their science knowledge to work by being involved in the extra curricular programs of Envirothon, Chemathon, Physics Olympics, the annual Science Expo, or helping with our annual Earth Day celebration. The entire Science Department at Western School of Technology and Environmental Science takes pride in being a key component in the school's mission and in the opportunity to inspire students in the scientific fields. |
