American Government - 9th grade
American Government - 9th grade The ninth grade course, American Government, is
the first opportunity at the high school level for
students to learn about their government and
political behavior. Demonstrating an understanding
of the historical development and current status
of principles, institutions, and processes of
political systems will prepare students to become
effective citizens. Thoughtful analysis will
generate the evaluation of interdependency and the
effectiveness of a variety of political systems.
Students will become aware of how geographic and
economic factors influence political behavior.
Thus, American Government establishes a knowledge
base which supports the development of skills
needed for citizens in a participatory democracy.
World History - 10th grade With the beginning of the 21st Century, the
growth of complex commercial, technological,
military, and religious, and cultural
relationships has made our diverse world into a
"global village." The mushrooming degree
of interdependence among nations, and emergent
systems of rapid transportation and instantaneous
communication have made an ethnocentric and
insulated view of the world's nations and peoples
obsolete. An American citizen, educated to live in
the 21st century, must have an understanding of
other cultural, social, political, and economic
systems in addition to those of the United States.
Understanding the development of our value system,
and an appreciation for our cultural and political
heritage are strengthened when we learn about the
heritage of other cultures and time periods.
United States History - 11th grade Living in a democratic society mandates an understanding of our nation's culture and history and requires a commitment to help resolve complex issues. Our high school students will soon become adults who must confront these issues. An in-depth examination of United States history plays a critical role in the development of an informed and enlightened citizenry since students' abilities to understand and intellectually respond will depend upon their accumulated educational experiences. This requires an academic experience that clarifies and enriches their previous historical encounters and clearly defines the linkages between the past and the present. This high school curriculum experience is guided by reliable pedagogy and scholarly methodologies that seek to engage students in the understanding and application of their acquired knowledge and skills. Economics and Public Issues (EPI) - 12th grade Economics and Public Issues will prepare students for the economic interactions they will encounter as producers, consumers, and citizens. A primary focus of the course will be the development of an issues analysis model and its application to public policy issues. The course will also provide students with skills they need to conduct personal finances as earners, savers, borrowers, and taxpayers. Completion of this course satisfies the grade level requirement for Drug Education and the graduation requirement for Economics. |
