Ninth Grade Team lays the foundation for a successful transition to High School

What is 9^th Grade Team?

WE are Self-fulfilling and Rewarding:

· Student of the Month Program- must be approved by all 9^th grade teachers

· Student of the Month Celebration

· Postcards for all A’s or all A’s and 1 B

· 100% Homework Certificate (for 100% Homework in all classes for entire quarter)

· Most improved student selected by teacher for individual classes

WE provide Accountability/Uniform policies:

· Homework detention after 3 missed homework assignments

· Weekly success guide checks by department during 1^st semester

· Hall pass layout in Success Guide – 2 hall passes per quarter

WE are Cooperative and Informative:

· 3 meetings per month for 9^th grade teachers after school

· Teachers remain in contact through e-mails and school-wide team minutes

· Focus on student achievement by discussing student concerns, A’s and B’s, 100% homework, and attendance / tardy issues

· Discuss Western’s policies and procedures so all teachers are on the same page

· Send a newsletter home to all 9^th grade students

· Communicate student and team concerns with the administration

WE create Interventions:

· Review all student grades at interims and at the end of each quarter

· Identify academic, behavioral, or social problems students may be having

· Review students with 1 or more D or E at interim and at the end of the quarter

· Pre-Probation letter sent home to students with more then 1 D / E after 1^st and 2^nd quarters

· Schedule team conferences with parents of students not meeting success within their respective classes and program area

· Provide coach classes for struggling students

· Provide review sessions prior to the High School Assessments for Algebra, Biology, English & Government

WE want our 9^th grade students to be Successful and Productive throughout their high school experience at Western.
