Mathematics

The Mathematics Department at Western School of Technology & Environmental Science supports all of the Magnet Programs by offering challenging and relevant mathematics to all of our students. The course offerings range from Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry to AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC and AP Statistics.  A subgroup of teachers in our department is solely responsible for IT Networking and Programming as well as AP Computer Science.   In 2014, 70% of the AP Statistics students passed the AP exam with a 3 or higher, 97%  (34 out of 35) of our AP Calculus AB students passed the AP exam with a 3 or higher and almost half of them received a 5, and 100% of our AP Calculus BC students passed the AP exam with a 3 or higher.

The road to success in Mathematics at Western Tech is well paved and well traveled.   All of the teachers provide coach classes for students to help students meet their goals.  The department offers additional support to students who wish to maximize their potential regarding their own performance in mathematically based courses and high-stakes exams during all lunch shifts.  A student may obtain a pass from the cafeteria and report to Mr. Miller in room 114 on A-days or Mr. Carlino in the office next to room 115 on B-days for help with any math content.  This support is in addition to each teacher’s own coach classes.  Students should ask their teacher if they are not sure when coach class is available.  Please contact Mr. Carlino at jcarlino@bcps.org if you have any questions regarding the Mathematics Department.
