Mark Kather Outstanding Contribution AwardIn November 2018, our Environmental Technology program director, Mark Kather, was honored by Baltimore Ecosystem Study (BES) with an Outstanding Contribution Award for his commitment to ecology education. The award was presented by BES Program Leader, Bess Caplan, who can be seen with Mr. Kather in the feature image. 

The BES program is a component of the Cary Institute of Ecosystem studies--a world renowned environmental research organization. The institute's BES Program seeks to enhance the ecological literacy of students through globally relevant research and hands-on curricular. 

Mr. Kather joined BES Education team in 2011 as a Research Experience for Teachers Fellow, where hw roked with Dr. Andrew Miller to conduct a comparative analysis of watershed properties in the Gwynns Falls using GIS software. Mr. Kather subsequently developed related curriculum for his high school environmental technology magnet program. He attended eight professional development sessions between 2011-2015 and returned to BES in the summer of 2017 to participate in the Maryland Changing Hydrology summer Institute. In addition, he has produced teams for the Baltimore Data Jam Competition for the past four years.
